WHAT IS ULTRA-HIGH-PERFORMANCE FIBER-REINFORCED CONCRETE (UHPFRC)?
The inclusion of steel fibers gives this concrete greater ductility in both tension and bending. It differs from high-performance concretes (HPC) in that it can dispense with conventional reinforcement and has compressive strength in excess of 130 MPa and direct tensile strength greater than 10 MPa.
BIO-BITUMEN TECHNOLOGY
the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has written to the Karnataka government to construct a trial road section using bio-bitumen technology, claiming that the innovation could reduce road construction costs by up to 20% while offering environmental benefits.
The proposed bio-binder is produced by blending 25% Class C sugarcane molasses with 75% virgin bitumen through a controlled chemical reaction process. This will reduce the use of bitumen and also over-reliance on it.

ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZA (AM)
Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM), a symbiosis between plants and members of an ancient phylum of fungi, the Glomeromycota, improves the supply of water and nutrients, such as phosphate and nitrogen, to the host plant. In return, up to 20% of plant-fixed carbon is transferred to the fungus.
PADMA BARRAGE
- Bangladesh recently approved the construction of the Padma barrage. The barrage is intended to control the Padma river, which is the name of the Ganga in Bangladesh
- The new Padma barrage will lie just 180 km downstream of the Farakka barrage in West Bengal — which Bangladesh has blamed for the country’s periodic water scarcity. The Farakka is one of India’s largest with a feeder canal and was built to divert water from the Ganga to the Bhagirathi-Hoogly, and thus flush the Kolkata Port
- Padma Barrage is a proposed dam located in Rajbari and Pabna districts of Bangladesh. It will be built to store water for Bangladesh during the dry season, in response of diverting water from India’s Farakka Barrage
- The Padma is a major river in Bangladesh. It is the eastern and main distributary of the Ganges, flowing generally southeast for 356 kilometres (221 mi) to its confluence with the Meghna River, near the Bay of Bengal.

DEATHS IN BRAZIL RAISE CONCERNS ABOUT INDIA’S DENGUE VACCINE, DENGIALL
- The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Panacea Biotec have announced the initiation of the first-ever Phase 3 clinical trial for a dengue vaccine in India. This landmark trial will evaluate the efficacy of India’s indigenous tetravalent dengue vaccine, DengiAll, developed by Panacea Biotec
- Currently, there is no antiviral treatment or licensed vaccine against dengue in India. The development of an effective vaccine is complex due to the need to achieve good efficacy for all four serotypes. In India, all four serotypes of Dengue virus are known to circulate or co-circulate in many regions.
- the Brazilian and Indian vaccines have been several years in the making. Both are made up of live but weakened (attenuated) versions of dengue viruses (DENVs
