WHAT IS A CURRENCY SWAP?
- Currency swaps are agreements between two parties to trade one currency for another at a preset rate over a given period. These exchanges set the stage for a large portion of global economic activity, allowing businesses to operate smoothly across borders and giving central banks powerful tools to manage monetary policy.
- They allow companies to secure more favorable loan rates in foreign currencies, often needed to effectively manage long-term investments and interest rate exposure.
EXTREME HEAT THREATENS GLOBAL FOOD SYSTEMS, UN AGENCIES WARN
- Extreme heat is pushing global agrifood systems to the brink, threatening the livelihoods and health of more than a billion people, according to a new report by the U.N.’s food and weather agencies.
- The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said heatwaves are becoming more frequent, intense and prolonged, damaging crops, livestock, fisheries and forests.
KANGAROOS
- Kangaroos are marsupials from the subfamily Macropodinae (macropods, meaning “large foot”).
- Kangaroos are indigenous to Australia and New Guinea.
- Kangaroos evolved to hop primarily as a highly energy-efficient adaptation to a changing Australian environment, where resources were sparse and dispersed over large distances. Hopping allowed them to cover these vast areas while conserving energy and maintaining high speeds to avoid predators.
INHERITED PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHIES (IPN)
Inherited peripheral neuropathies (IPN) are a clinically and genetically diverse group of disorders caused by genetic mutations that lead to the progressive degeneration of peripheral nerves (motor, sensory, and autonomic).
