THE TAIWAN STRAIT
The Taiwan Strait is a 130-kilometer-wide body of water that separates mainland China (Fujian Province) from the island of Taiwan. Connecting the South China Sea to the southwest and the East China Sea to the northeast, it is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes and a major geopolitical flashpoint
KĪLAUEA
- An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 struck near Honaunau-Napoopoo on the Big Island of Hawaii late on Friday (May 22, 2026)
- Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, is located on Hawaii’s Big Island.
- The volcano has been erupting episodically since December 23, 2024.
COMPRESSED BIOGAS (CBG)
- Compressed Biogas (CBG) is a purified, methane-rich (90-95%) renewable gas produced by breaking down organic waste. Because its properties closely match Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), it serves as a green automotive fuel and industrial energy source, directly supporting waste management and a circular economy
- compressed biogas (CBG) offers a compelling alternative to this twin crisis by converting agricultural residues and organic waste into a clean, transport-ready fuel.
- Its production builds on biomethanation, but conventional methods often struggle with dry, fibrous biomass that resists microbial breakdown. Recognising this limitation, researchers have developed advanced anaerobic digestion systems suited to Indian conditions. Among these are the Dry Anaerobic Digester with Unique Hydrodynamics (DADUH), designed for lignocellulosic biomass, and the Bi-phasic Anaerobic Digester System (BiADS).
INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES AGNI-1 BALLISTIC MISSILE
India had successfully carried out a flight trial of an advanced Agni missile with a Multiple Independently Targetable Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) off the coast of the State. The MIRV feature ensures that a single missile can deploy multiple war heads at different locations.
THE UN’S NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION
The UN’s nuclear non-proliferation efforts are primarily anchored by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), a landmark 1968 agreement with 191 participating states. It operates on three pillars: non-proliferation, disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy
THE UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S EMERGENCY FUND (COMMONLY KNOWN AS UNICEF)
- UNICEF raises alarm over rising violence against children in Bangladesh
- The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (commonly known as UNICEF) is a specialized UN agency established in 1946 to provide humanitarian, developmental, and emergency relief to children and mothers worldwide
